Bioxytran Enters Research Collaboration with University of Georgia to Evaluate Galectin Antagonist Against Bird Flu in Chickens

In vitro findings support continued investigation of Bioxytran’s galectin-targeting approach against viruses related to avian influenza

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS — March 19, 2025 — Bioxytran, Inc. (OTCQB: BIXT), a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing carbohydrate-based therapeutics for viral diseases and other conditions involving tissue injury and hypoxia, today announced that it has entered into a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) with the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, on behalf of the University of Georgia.

The agreement establishes a framework for research evaluating Bioxytran’s galectin antagonist technology as a potential approach for addressing avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, in chickens.

The research will be led by Dr. Daniel Perez, a virology and poultry medicine expert at the University of Georgia. Dr. Perez holds several academic and research positions at the university, including CVI Affiliated Faculty and the Caswell Eidson Chair in Poultry Medicine.

Investigating a New Approach to Avian Influenza

Bioxytran’s lead antiviral candidate, ProLectin-M, is designed around a galectin-antagonist mechanism. Rather than directly targeting viral replication, the approach is intended to interfere with galectin-related processes that may play a role in viral infection and associated inflammatory responses.

Bioxytran has previously reported in vitro activity against viruses similar to avian influenza, providing the scientific basis for further investigation of the technology in the poultry setting.

The collaboration with the University of Georgia will allow researchers to evaluate whether this mechanism may have potential application against bird flu in chickens.

While the research is exploratory, the collaboration represents an opportunity to investigate Bioxytran’s galectin science beyond its initial human antiviral development program.

Expanding Bioxytran’s Glycovirology Platform

Importantly, the University of Georgia research is investigational. The company has not established the safety or efficacy of ProLectin-M for treating avian influenza in chickens, and the program remains subject to further research and evaluation.
