Bioxytran Secures GMP-Quality Source of Camel Hemoglobin to Support Universal Oxygen Carrier Development

(OTCQB: BIXT), a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing investigational carbohydrate-based therapeutics and oxygen transport technologies for significant unmet medical needs, today announced that it has secured a GMP-quality source of camel hemoglobin to support the continued development of its investigational Universal Oxygen Carrier (UOC) program.

The supply relationship was established with support from the Heme Foundation, a nonprofit organization focused on developing alternatives to conventional blood transfusion systems. Bioxytran and the Heme Foundation are collaborating through a $10 million joint venture focused on the development of a Universal Oxygen Carrier designed to transport oxygen without relying on conventional donor blood.

Securing a consistent source of GMP-quality hemoglobin represents an important development milestone for the UOC program, providing Bioxytran with access to a key biological component needed for continued research, development, and potential future manufacturing activities.

Advancing the Universal Oxygen Carrier Program

The UOC program is intended to investigate an alternative approach to oxygen delivery that could address limitations associated with conventional blood transfusion logistics.

Unlike donated blood, an oxygen carrier is being developed with the objective of providing oxygen transport without requiring the same donor-dependent supply chain and cold-storage infrastructure associated with conventional red blood cell transfusions.

Bioxytran serves as the Heme Foundation's primary contractor for the UOC development program. Under the terms of the joint venture, Bioxytran retains full intellectual property rights related to UOC development.
